The Written Word

I was gifted yesterday with a short story that was written by someone with whom I have become recently acquainted. While it has come up a few times in conversation, until yesterday did not realize that this person’s writing skills were that darn good. “Good enough to get me watching Moulin Rouge again – yeah he’s good lol).

The story is somewhat of a romance definitely not PG.  As I read I was reminded of Eric Jerome Dickey before  he went sideways and started doing murder mysteries…But the clarity of thought was as on point. When initially I scanned the first paragraph, I was in my room putzing around with my iTouch. Once I started to read, I found myself having to get up and go sit outside on the deck.

Page turner most definitely – and tear jerker for my sappy tail. It is clear from reading that the  male lead in t his story cares such a great deal about the female lead. What got me was how much she mattered to him for so long a period. He truly cared about her and had cared for her since they were both students in school.

As I continued to read it was clear that I was not going to make it through this story without shedding quite a few tears. The ending was superb and I won’t give it away but to say that it makes you think.  It actually got me into writing mode for a second. Managed to eek out the following after having read the story completely.

When Love Finds You

When love finds you,

It is not always in the warmth of the sun

Or in the bright light of day.

When love finds you,

It may not be when you feel ready

Or have armed yourself for its onslaught.

When love finds you,

Even In the midst of your tears,

It brings forth a smile

And reminds you of

How it feels to be free….
